American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard Camp
Summer 2026
The Kingsport Aquatic Center is offering a specialty camp for 11 to 15 year-olds. The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding camp is designed to build basic knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards or those interested in rescue skills. Camp participants will learn techniques in communication, teamwork and decision making, and build stamina during this program. The Junior Lifeguarding course does not certify participants in first aid, CPR or AED or as a lifeguard.
Camp Registration: Opens April 1
- Session 1: June 1 – 5
- Session 2: June 15 – 19
- Session 3: June 29 – July 3
- Session 4: June 13 – 17
- Session 5: July 27 – July 31
Cost:
- $200 for KAC and YMCA members
- $225 for nonmembers
Campers are required to complete prerequisites before entry into the camp. When you register for camp, you will be required to pick a skill evaluation day. The following skills are required to ensure safety for all campers:
- Swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side.
- Swim the breaststroke for 25 yards using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
- Complete the water competency sequence without stopping.
1. Step into water from the side and totally submerge.
2. Maintain position for one minute by treading water or floating (or a combination of the two).
3. Rotate one full turn and orient to the exit.
4. Level off and swim on the front or back 25 yards. 5. Exit without using a ladder or steps.
Camp Week Schedule: Monday – Friday
- Drop Off: 8 – 9 a.m.
- Junior Lifeguard Camp: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Lunch: 12 – 1 p.m. (Campers must pack their own lunch.)
- Junior Lifeguard Camp: 1 – 4 p.m.
- Pick Up: 4 – 5 p.m.
- Please note: 5 and 10 minute breaks will be provided throughout camp time to ensure campers can use the restroom, stay hydrated, and take breaks.
Drop Off / Pick Up
At registration, guardians will be asked to provide a list of individuals who are allowed to drop off and pick up participants. All participants will be signed in and signed out. Parents are not allowed to drop off or pick up participants without signing them in or out. If an individual is not on the pick up/drop off list, the participant’s primary contact will be called. All drop off and pick up contacts must have an ID before signing them out.

American Red Cross Babysitting and First Aid/CPR/AED Camp

The Kingsport Aquatic Center is offering a specialty camp for 11 to 15 year-olds. The American Red Cross Babysitting and First Aid/CPR/AED Camp is a one-day course designed to teach campers to take care of children and infants safely and responsibly, including:
- becoming an effective leader
- keeping everyone safe
- basic childcare
- age-appropriate activities
- recognizing and handling variety of behaviors
- emergency action plan steps
- responding to choking emergencies
- bleeding emergencies
The Babysitting Camp will certify campers in American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED.

- Please note: We ask parents to not pick up campers during class sessions. Due to this camp being a certification course, campers must attend and participate in all of the camp activities to become certified.
