Requirements: -6 months to approximately 3 years of age, able to participate with a caregiver
Participants and their caregivers work on getting wet, buoyancy and movement including floating on back and front, moving arms and legs, and bubble blowing.
Tadpoles (Level 2)
Requirements: -2 years to approximately 3 years of age, able to participate with a caregiver
-All skills must be passed from Parent and Child Level 1 (assisted)
Participants and their caregivers work on submerging, gliding, and rudimentary stroke including combined arm and leg actions on front and back (assisted).
Requirements:
-Approximately 3 – 5 years of age, able to leave caregiver willingly
Participants will be introduced basic aquatics skills including blowing bubbles, entering, and exiting the water, floating on front and back, arm and leg action on front and back, and water safety.
Seals (Level 2)
Requirements:
-Approximately 3 – 5 years of age, able to leave caregiver willingly
-Enter water independently using ramp, steps, or side, travel at least 5 yards, submerge to mouth and blow bubbles for at least 3 seconds and safely exit the water (assisted)
-Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, then roll to back (assisted)
-Float on back for at least 3 seconds, then recover to a vertical position (assisted)
Participants will continue to build on skills from Pre-School Level 1 (Guppies). They will work on opening eyes underwater, recovering to a vertical position on the back and front, changing the direction of swimming, treading water, and water safety skills.
Dolphins (Level 3)
Requirements:
-Approximately 3 – 5 years of age, able to leave caregiver willingly
-Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to back, float on back for 15 seconds, then recover to a vertical position (assisted)
-Glide on back for at least 2 body lengths, roll to front, then recover to a vertical position (assisted)
-Swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for at least 3 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front, then continue swimming on front for at least 3 body lengths (assisted)
Participants will continue to build skills from Pre-School Level 2 (Seals). They will work on completing skills independently with no assistance. New skills will include submerging and holding breath, bobbing, rotary breathing, and finning arm action on the back.
Requirements:
-6 to 8 years old, able to participate without caregiver
Participants will be introduced to basic aquatics skills, including blowing bubbles, entering and exiting the water, floating on front and back, arm and leg action on front and back, and water safety.
Level 2
Requirements:
-6 to 8 years old, able to participate without caregiver
-Enter independently, travel at least 5 yards, bob 5 times, then safely exit the water (assisted)
-Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to a back float for 5 seconds, and recover to a vertical position (assisted)
Participants will continue to build on skills from Intermediate Learn to Swim Level 1. They will work on opening eyes underwater, recovering to a vertical position on the back and front, changing the direction of swimming, treading water, and water safety skills.
Level 3
Requirements:
-6 to 8 years old, able to participate without caregiver
-Step from side into chest deep water, push off the bottom, move into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds, swim on front or back for 5 body lengths, then exit the water
-Move into back float for 15 seconds, roll to front then recover to a vertical position
-Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front, then continue swimming for at least 5 body lengths
Participants will continue to expand proficiency of previous skills with additional guidance. They will learn how to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke. They will be introduced to the scissor and dolphin kick to help expand their time of treading water. Lastly, they will learn to enter into the water headfirst.
Level 4
Requirements:
-6 to 8 years old, able to participate without caregiver
-Jump into deep water from side, recover to surface, maintain position by treading or floating for 1 minute, rotate one fill turn, then swim front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards, then exit the water
-Push off in streamlined position, then swim front crawl for 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, swim elementary backstroke 15 yards, then exit the water
Participants will improve their skills and increase endurance by using strokes from Intermediate Learn to Swim Level 3. They will learn how to swim breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly, and back crawl.
Requirements:
-9 to 15 years old, able to participate without caregiver
Participants will be introduced basic aquatics skills including blowing bubbles, entering, and exiting the water, floating on front and back, arm and leg action on front and back, and water safety
